What To Wear To Brunch, Lunch & Date Night

What are you wearing?  A question often asked, texted, emailed, and sighed.  Before grand parties or even simple dinners, many of us stand in front of our closets wondering why with so many clothes hanging in front of us, we still don’t know what to wear.  Even when invitations neatly state the dress code in discreet script, there are still those of us asking for an interpreter, someone to make sense of “white tie”, and “semi-formal” let alone, “smart casual”, “festive”, and “beach formal”.

To help us navigate the dressing dilemmas that we encounter on a more regular basis are the talented team of Thursdays, a well-edited boutique offering women of all ages cool, casual basics and unique pieces that add an unexpected pop of whimsy and fun.

Family Brunch

Family brunch is all about ease and comfort but it does not have to be all-sweats, and looking like you’re about to bust out your latest cross-fit moves.  Comfy, light-washed denim is always a favourite for the weekend, and the frayed hem detail and distressing makes these jeans appropriate for lounging with family.  Hitting just at the ankle, they show off these metallic platform brogues nicely but could easily work with boots too.  This light-weight white top with feminine collar and cuff are a welcome twist on the plain white tee.

Ladies Who Lunch 2.0

There used to be a time when ladies lunched -they dressed for the occasion and the thought of wearing tattered jeans and a pilled sweater was unheard of.  While no one is advocating the return of day-suits and gloves with matching hats, there is something to be said about feeling pulled together when meeting-up with friends for lunch.  This beautiful striped blouse with embroidered floral detailing could be paired with dark or white denim but looks so crisp tucked into black pants. These classic black trousers with subtle pleating and a higher waist (a nod to the 80s) have a fresh look with turned-up cuff and tapered leg.  The platform silver brogue give it an edge and make strolling the streets post-lunch much more pleasant than trying to teeter around on heels.

Dinner Next Door

When friends invite you over for dinner at their place, go for comfort but do not sacrifice style.  Stretchy black, flare denim is updated by pairing it with an ankle bootie and a slouchy silk blouse.  The blouse, with a menswear feel, is definitely feminine with a plunging neckline that could be accessorized with a long-hanging, delicate gold chain.

Date Night

Date night.  A weekly ritual for a lucky few.  An urban legend for many.  The exposed-shoulder trend continues to rage on and this red number is forgiving enough in the tummy to allow for all three courses and the extra drinks!  For date night only comes around but once in a while . . . the black skinny jean is a staple for any wardrobe.  If you don’t have a pair of favourite black jeans, you need a pair.  You will find yourself reaching for them regularly as they prove to be a flattering and comfortable option for nights out on the town or running errands on the weekend.  Thursdays has a fabulous line of denim that fits like a dream – looks polished and perfect but feels like you’re wearing your favourite comfies.

The staff at Thursdays know fit and they know style.  If you find yourself in the Toronto area be sure to visit them at 1130 Yonge Street.  For any pricing information or to buy any of the items featured in this article, contact Thursdays.  For style inspiration follow Thursdays on Instagram.
