Today is Galentine’s Day, a day to gather yer gal pals and go out and have some fun! The day was invented by Smart Girl Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope on Parks and Rec, she of the timeless mantras, “Hoes before bros, ovaries before brovaries and uteruses before duderuses.”
There is even an entire section of Etsy devoted to the day. Go crazy. I’ll be right here when you get back…..
I’m partial to this card by Sea and Lake.
I love the idea of a holiday devoted to female friendships. Our gal pals are important, and our friendships deserve to be celebrated. Whether you choose a raucous night out or a quiet acknowledgement of what your friendships mean to you, marking the day is, I think, a great way to nourish the relationships that nourish us.
We have shared lots of ideas for friendship dates so far this month, and we have loads of ideas from our archive, so we’ve gathered some suggestions for how you can celebrate Galentine’s Day:
- go throw axes
- or solve a mystery
- head to the spa
- or make your own spa treats
- gather to protest
- or to volunteer together (find out who needs volunteers here)
- get some retail therapy
- or host a clothing swap
- make chocolate bark
- go for high tea
- or do something out of the box, like getting your tea leaves read
- pass on your passion (it’s how I learned to love working out and got to share my love of perfume)
- And more
And of course, stay tuned for the rest of the month as we post more ideas!
