Last year, I shared with Plenty readers that gift-wrapping is one of my favourite holiday to-dos. I find it is the perfect antidote to the frenzied bursts of shopping that pepper much of my November and December. In the quiet of my home, when everyone is either asleep or at school, I run the scissors along the wrapping paper without a hitting a snag and take my time choosing the perfect adornment to complement the theme. It’s strangely therapeutic and yet I know I am not alone.
While there are several shops that I frequent for ribbons, papers, bags and party supplies, Creative Bag is the store where I know I am guaranteed to find everything that I need at one stop. Plus they have online shopping, but consider yourself warned: your cart will be overflowing in no time!
For this year’s holiday season Creative Bag has three distinct collections in addition to their ever-present classic stock of reds, greens, whites and metallics.
The Love Letters collection has my number! The gold and white is pretty, modern and festive. I love this look and find that any leftover papers and wrapping can be used throughout the year for weddings, showers and even birthdays.
The Cameron Collection is perfect for the DIYer and kids. The Kraft paper mixed with white keeps things neutral, and fun accessories like raffia and tissue paper in vibrant colours allows you to make it your own. Consider personalizing the wrapping for each child in your family to help temper the chaos come Christmas morning.
Could it get any more Canadian than the Cottage Life collection? A twist on the traditional green and red motif of Christmas but festive nonetheless, when plaid meets black, red and white for this country meets city look. Definitely a showstopper!
To complete your holiday wrapping tool kit, don’t forget the following essentials:
- Gift tags (we have sourced a few here)
- Tape (always buy more than you need)
- Seal-It Glitter Tape (available here, Shoppers Drug Mart and Sears Canada)
- Because it does not flake, like most brands do!
- Because it can be easily torn, no scissors needed
- Because it can stick to a variety of surfaces and materials
- Because it is available in a variety of colours and patterns
- A sharp pair of scissors
- A mug of hot chocolate
- Your favourite holiday movie playing on the TV
